Word Vomit: Giovanni

Ambitious and opportunistic (and egoistic!), and likes to sort the world around him into categories to feel more in control of it. Eloquent and well-educated, albeit prone to fits of temper, but he's working on it. He takes himself very, very seriously, even when fighting 11-year-olds. He has a strong sense of responsibility, or at least he thinks he does, but he tends to interpret "responsibility" a little differently than most people. Easily tempted by power and dreams of grandeur. He refuses to talk down to children.

It would take a lot to shake his faith and conviction in his own actions; thanks for that, protagonists, really. Will always be convinced in the end that he's doing the Right Thing, and yes, before you ask, he honestly believes that using Pokemon for evil criminal enterprise and personal gain constitutes doing the right thing – for himself and his followers, at least. A father to his men, but be forewarned, he's kind of a shitty father. Adheres to a personal code of honor despite the 'life of crime' thing. Still, he is an unapologetically bad man and is totally in this just for the power and glory. And if you don't understand that, then you're probably some worthless idealist and not worth his time anyway. Leans toward the melodramatic in his weaker moments. Likes to think of himself as the Greatest Trainer (Greatest Everything) and is quick to chalk up any failures as mere flukes, up until the point where they are literally impossible to ignore. Has an eye for spotting talent, but would rather go out of his way to underestimate someone than admit that they might be better than him.

He is ultimately willing to own up to his shortcomings and improve upon them, it's just that he's...rather good at completely missing the point when life tries to teach him a lesson. At best he'll end up right back where he started – which is fine by him, because it gives him the chance to try and do it even better this time around. His motivations are countless and hopelessly complicated and sometimes even conflict with one another, but it all makes sense to HIM, and in the end that's all he really cares about. He doesn't have to explain himself to the likes of you.

Terrible father. Refuses to admit he's a terrible father. That's one shortcoming he will never be able to face head-on. Terrible family man all around, actually, but he loves you, Ari, baby, really he does, and no he's not at all sorry for disappearing for three years without saying anything but can't you see that it was for your own good? He is all gangster and he will kill Pokémon without remorse, so don't fuck with him, seriously. Sexy, suave, and kind of a control freak. Enjoys having the finer things in life, which is why his suits are so expensive and crazy fly. He doesn't spend heedlessly, though: he might shell out $400 for a bottle of dinner wine, but so help him, if you rip a hole in your uniform pants doing something stupid on a dare it is coming out of YOUR paycheck, and he'll probably yell at you in front of all the other grunts in the cafeteria for good measure.

Join his side. He will take care of you. The rest of the world can burn, but he does take care of his own, so long as they don't fail him, and are willing to follow his orders exactly, and outside circumstances don't happen to intervene. Abandon you? No, he'd never do that. He's only biding his time, of course. You may not understand the things he does, and people may say that the things he does are in fact crazy, but trust him, he has it all figured out. You'll see. Everyone will see in the end. Whatever you do just Don't Get in His Way.

Basically, he's a guy that likes power and likes to be in control of things, and he thinks he would be really good at having and controlling things, and the more things he's in control of, the better, so he really wants to have and control all of the things.

That's why Giovanni's the Boss.
